What knocks a bet out of the race

Lucky Fish is paying out a guaranteed R4.5 million in cash across Wednesday and Friday evening races until 27 November 2026, and a R1 cash bet on a selected Habanero slot between 18:30 and 20:30 is all it takes to be in the running.

When the race actually runs

Luckyfish.co.za lists the Jackpot Race from 1 August through 27 November. The terms and the payout table are tighter than that. Every rand in the schedule sits between Friday 2 October and Friday 27 November, on Wednesdays and Fridays only.

If you are opening an account this week, that calendar matters more than the banner date. The next race is Wednesday 7 October, an R250 000 night. A sign-up on Monday or Tuesday still leaves time to clear the welcome spins before that window, then stake cash once 18:30 hits.

Countdown, trigger, then the places

Lucky Fish splits the evening into three phases. Only one of them pays.

Before 18:30, the display is a countdown and a prize figure. Nothing can drop, so an early spin does not sneak you into the places.

18:30 to 20:30. The race is live. The jackpot is guaranteed to trigger before 20:30. There is no warning. It can land on the first minute or the last.

After the trigger. Places go to the players whose qualifying bets landed closest to that moment. It is not a leaderboard you grind all night, and it is not a draw of everyone who spun once. One place per player, per race. The closest bet does not also collect a lower place on the same night.

A few rules sit under all of that:

Wins go onto the Lucky Fish balance as cash, not bonus funds, and can be withdrawn.
Fun Play and Bonus Play do not count.
You need money in the account for the whole window. An empty balance takes you out.
The placed amount plus any other win cannot go past the site maximum payout.

That second point is the one new players miss. A bonus spin, even on a listed game, is invisible to the race. The R1 has to come off your cash balance.

Seventeen nights, only two pay shapes

The R4.5 million is for 17 separate races in two shapes. Five nights pay R300 000 to 154 players. The other 12 pay R250 000 to 238 players. Five times R300 000 plus 12 times R250 000 is the full R4 500 000.

Those nights are 7, 9, 14, 16, 21 and 23 October, then 4, 6, 11, 13, 18 and 20 November.

The top prize is slightly higher on a standard night (R10 000 against R9 000), but the R300 000 nights put more money in the first few rows. A R500 place will not change the month. A top place might. The useful number is how many places exist: 154 or 238, all from cash bets of R1 upwards.

Stakes only count on the selected Habanero list. If a game is not on it, the bet does not count, even inside the window. Names that come up often:

Hot Hot Fruit and Wild Trucks are the awkward overlap. Both are on the race list. Both are also in the new-player spin pack. That sounds convenient until you read the race rule again: bonus spins do not qualify. You can learn the reels on the house, but then you still need a cash stake in the 18:30 window if you want a place.

Opening an account
